Pla Alfa is the operational protocol used by the Rural Agents Corps for the prevention and monitoring of forest fires in Catalonia. Depending on the level of risk, it activates different measures regulating activities in natural environments across municipalities and regions.
With the arrival of summer — the period of highest wildfire risk — the need emerged to strengthen public awareness and make it easier for citizens to check the Pla Alfa level before carrying out outdoor activities. The challenge was to transform a technical tool into an accessible, clear and easy-to-understand message for a broad audience.
The challenge: giving visibility to an essential yet little-known tool
Although Pla Alfa had been active for years, a significant part of the population was unaware of its existence and therefore did not consult it. The main challenge was to transform a technical system into a recognisable and easy-to-use resource for the general public.
The campaign needed to clearly communicate what Pla Alfa is, why it is important to consult it, and how to access it, simplifying the message as much as possible to ensure immediate understanding in a public communication context.
The solution: a direct and recognisable campaign focused on name recognition and digital access
To address this challenge, we designed a campaign based on the constant repetition of the name “Pla Alfa,” aiming to reinforce memorability and ensure the public automatically associates it with the consultation tool.
From a graphic perspective, communication focuses on two main elements: the name and website access. The QR code becomes a key visual resource, enabling direct access to information, while messaging is reduced to the essentialf minimal essential content to encourage fast and clear reading.
The visual identity uses sans-serif typography to reinforce readability and message clarity. Five different posters were developed following the colour code of Pla Alfa activation levels — green, yellow, orange, red and maroon — creating visual coherence and immediate recognition.
The campaign also included the design of the institutional presentation setup for a media event led by the Minister of Interior and Public Security, Núria Parlon, as well as the creation of both physical and digital materials: posters, an informational video, postcards, removable stickers, and dedicated social media pieces such as reels and publication visuals.
Results: clear communication that strengthens public recognition of Pla Alfa
The campaign contributed to increasing the visibility of Pla Alfa and consolidating it as an accessible consultation tool for citizens during wildfire risk periods.
Message simplification, visual consistency and the integration of physical and digital channels helped reinforce name recognition and facilitate direct access to information, aligning institutional communication with public service within a unified communication ecosystem.
